6 June 2009 - Quizzing All Over The World!

1. The eight papers are grouped into two sets of four genres each., the quiz being tackled in two halves, with a break and marking of Part I in between. In each half competitors have 60 minutes to answer as many of 120 questions as possible. If a player has finished before the expiry of 60 minutes, they may leave their seat - so long as they respect the need for other players still quizzing to be free of distractions.

2. Papers will be swapped with another player for marking at the end of 60 minutes.

3. Unless stated in the question, last names are acceptable.

4. Phonetically correct answers will be accepted – this is a test of knowledge NOT spelling.

5. After the four genres have been marked, papers are returned to owning players who will then have 5 minutes to check and agree with the marking. Disputes must be referred to the proctor in this time (please indicate which answer(s) you are querying with a large “?” question mark). The proctor is the official adjudicator – his/her decision is final.

6. At the end of the four genres, the checker should copy the player's scores into the table on the bundle's cover sheet. If the owning player agrees with their marking, they should sign next to the score(s) to record approval. Complete scripts should then be handed in (these will be returned afterwards, they are called-in so a sample check of scores can be made). Once this has been done, no further discussions will be entered into about scores. The score signed for will be considered correct, unless independently queried during IQA security/assurances processes.

7. Each player's seven best genre scores are aggregated to find their overall score. The overall highest scoring player from all participating venues will be declared the World Quizzing Champion for 2009.

8. In the event of a tie, the score a player dropped (the lowest scoring genre) will be taken into consideration. If there is still a tie, the person with the highest scoring paper in any genre will win. If there is still a tie the player whose next best score (from any category) is highest (and so on) will be deemed the winner.

9. In the event of any unprecedented occurrence or unforeseen circumstances arising in the course of the quiz, the official adjudicator at the venue affected (i.e. its proctor) may give a ruling on the matter and their decision shall be final.

10. A competitor's commencing to answer questions in the question set indicates complete and unequivocal acceptance of these rules.
